“Developing excellent communication skills is absolutely essential to effective leadership. The leader must be able to share knowledge and ideas to transmit a sense of urgency and enthusiasm to others. If a leader can't get a message across clearly and motivate others to act on it, then having a message doesn't even matter."
Gilbert Amelio, former President and CEO of National
Semiconductor Corp
Communication is key as improper communication can lead to confusion
in the direction towards the common goal and will lead to undone work or work
that is not up to standards. It is not always about coming up with a good point
as that is what everyone can do and what differs a leader from a follower is
how the leader drives his point to his potential followers to convince them to
believe in what he believes. This brings us to the skill one needs to have to
be able to bring his statement across effectively within a short period of time
to show the rest that he is credible. Having wisdom in his choice of words and
the way of speech is what convinces people to build trust in their leader. For
example, a leader leading a group of engineers must use accurate and
professional terms and sometimes even diagrams to facilitate the sharing of his
ideas.
